19.06.20 Midlothian Young Carers

The impact of Covid19 in the past months, as well as the impending school holiday period will have an impact on our Young Carers where normal supports at school are not in place and there may be additional responsibilities coupled with less contact with groups and friends.  Shared Care Scotland https://www.sharedcarescotland.org.uk/resources/short-breaks-for-strange-times/ and Young Scot https://young.scot/campaigns/national/young-carers are offering lots of online activities, supports and vouchers available to Young Carers aged 12 and over. However, any Young Carer requiring additional support just now please contact your school or during the holidays contact Youngcarer@midlothian.gov.uk for advice.

19.06.20 Feedback from Social Distancing on Routes to School

The Midlothian Council School Active Travel Team would like to thank all the parents, pupils and staff who took the time to complete their recent survey concerning social distancing on routes to school.

Although we are unable to reply to individual concerns and suggestions, please be assured that all of your comments will be assessed.  We will then look at the main areas of concern and what can be done to help during this current crisis period.  Please note, all measures will be temporary and we are limited to what is achievable but we hope that the measures we do manage to put in place help give reassurance on the route to school.  Let’s keep up our great walking and cycling figures in Midlothian with all its associated benefits!

Message from Scottish Government 25 05 20

As you may already be aware, following the publication of a route map document today which outlines the Scottish Government’s planned future response to the COVID19 Pandemic – https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-framework-decision-making-scotlands-route-map-through-out-crisis/ the First Minister has announced, that the Scottish Government is currently planning for the reopening of Scottish schools on 11th August 2020.

This announcement is part of a wider planned route map on the reopening of schools and ELC settings which can be accessed here – https://www.gov.scot/publications/excellent-equity-during-covid-19-pandemic-strategic-framework-reopening-schools-early-learning-childcare-provision-scotland/

We understand that this will be an anxious and uncertain time for many people, including parents and carers.  For that reason the Scottish Government have produced a Q&A document to support parents and carers at this time.  This document covers some of the key questions that parents will have with regard to the safe reopening of schools and ELC settings.  This information has been published on the Scottish Government’s Parent Club website and can be accessed at – www.parentclub.scot/easing-restrictions-in-scotland
