Music Tuition

A professional team of music instructors work closely with schools to deliver a varied and challenging curriculum. Mr Fernie (brass) and Miss Docherty (woodwind) visit St David’s each Friday.

What your child will get out of lessons

There are many benefits to learning a new instrument, like improved concentration, self-discipline, social skills and more.

Many studies show that even though the lessons happen in class time, children who learn music consistently out-perform those who do not.

Who can apply for lessons

All pupils can apply for lessons as long as instruments are available. No previous experience is necessary.

Pupils normally start in P6 but lessons may be available to older pupils or those wishing to start a second instrument where space allows.

When lessons take place

Lessons take place during school time.

Will my child sit exams?

There are opportunities at any level of experience to sit Grade Exams from one of the major bodies, like the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. These exams attract valuable points which can be recorded on University (UCAS) application forms.

Progress is monitored throughout the year, and reports issued once a term. Parents have annual opportunities to meet with instructors.

How do I get lessons for my child?

Children are assessed both for lessons in general and for particular instruments. The instructor will recommend the most suitable instrument in consultation with you and your child. Assessments will be carried out in your child’s school.

If you would like to apply for lessons, return the application form given to your child as soon as possible.
